Susi Graf sum-up

I have been working mostly on updating the content at Susi's blog rather than working on the website. She sent me out on different events which I documented and wrote about on the blog. This has been very interesting since this is stuff i would never have thought about existed two months ago. But this week i went to a Rally at the City Hall. The government is cutting all financial aids to the "transgendered/gay/lesbian/bi-sexual homeless" shelters, which is a serious problem meaning all the people from that community will have to live on the streets with no help at all. Some of the footage is online now at Lost in the Crowd Blog While i was down there waiting for the rally to start, this guy asked me wheather i knew who those people were or not, and i told him what i knew, and that i was there to take some pictures. It so happened that he used to be a press photographer and he had some cool stories, he was also former mayer Rudolph Giuliani's campaign leader, a really interesting person. But the rally started and i had to run.
I think they hoped that more people would show up, but the mood was still high even though the cause was serious. Which i think was nice.

Susi is also having a visit from one of the editors of her documentary, Christopher. So Matt and Chris just finished editing the documentary this week, which is kind of a big deal! Susi has worked on it for many years, and Matt has worked on it for about a year. And from what my expierence is with editing shortfilms, which can be hard at times, this must be heaven for them.

From the statistics on Google Analytics we can tell that it has helped alot with the new blog, and people are starting to subscribe to our news, which is really awesome. It's the first time i have had a chance to spend that much time on blogging, and it pays out, so im happy.

Maysles Sum-up

So for the past weeks a lot has happened to the maysles blog/ new website. As mentioned we are building it on the wordpress platform, because it's important that perople without programming-knowledge can update the website.
Last week Brooke, their current webmaster came to visit New York and to have a meeting with us. We got some info, that narrowed us down on how advanced we could make the backend of the site. The backend code needs alot of notes and if possible should be avilable to open in Dreamweaver, because Brooke is not a programmer, and used Dreamweaver to build all the pages for the site. We set up a deadline for a test site which the Maysles crew could play with to get to know the website before we leave, that will be two weeks from now, so they have two weeks to use it before we leave.
We struggled a bit about making a new page for the blog that could retrieve info from the wordpress database, and output it on a seperate page, but after we found out that there was a speacial "Header" section you have to include to have access to the wordpress content, everything worked out well.

Last night i was at a "first of all time" screening with a documentary in progress, which Gabriel is working on. He doesn't work with maysles, but his office is in the maysles institute building, so we had allready met before, and he invited me to the screening. It was a very interesting documentary he was working on, about this mentally disordered person, who suffered from compulsive "prison break" disease. That means he kept breaking of of jails and prisons. He was really smart, but damaged at the same time, and the story and this caracter was soo interesting, i can't wait for this doc to get finished!

My apologies

Hi, i know the blog has been a bit dead lately, im very sorry about that, but i just hanv't had the time to update it :/
I will try to improve that in the future, but i cannont promise too much. Until then i think you should check out Lost In The Crowd Blog, that's a blog i spend more time on because it is the blog im working on with Susi and Andreas. Most of the pictures and videos up now is stuff i have put up and filmed, which maybe gives you a better idea of what i do with Susi.
I'm gonna start writing my finals-project in the next couple of days, which doesn't give me more free time on my hand unfortunatly, but i hope to get time to put up some of the awesome videos and photos i have taken ;)

Rehersing with the Ninjas

This Sunday i went with Susi to a reheasal by the Legendary House Of Ninja, i was hoping the movie of the actual rehersal was up by now, but you have to settle with this video. They are really good dancers, so look forward to that part.

I also took some pictures for the website, they can be found on Flickr here:
flickr.com/photos/susigraf/sets

It was very interesting getting a look at this ballroomscene, which is completly something i have never seen or heard about before. It is this Voguing/catwalking community, everyone is invited but most people are transgender and or gay, but the common factor is "you have to look fabolous" and it is a rather big scene. Some are even homeless because their parents threw them out when they came out of the closet, and they can seek comfort at these different houses like the Legendary House Of Ninja, which was started by Willie Ninja, who is also the founder of Vogue. These homeless people are the ones Susi's documentary "Lost In The Crowd" focuses on. We also got invited to their show on Tuesday, where they will also show "How Do I Look" by Wolfgang Busch, which is Susi's competition, so we are also gonna go there.

Back to the future... Sort of...

If you guessed "American Museum of Natural History" you guessed right.
I had to go see the dinosaurs while i was here. One of the few places that shows actual skeletons, and not just casts of them.

It was an allright place, the dinosaur skeltons were the best part. I saw this space movie they show in a "dome" so you have a round screen, which almost fills out you entire field of view, so the expectations were high. But the movie was kind of lame and nothing really happened, they didn't take full advantage of that big screen in my opinion and it was an unsharp image, so that was unfortunate. But there was a lot to look at in there, and even though i had set to mind not to spend too much time in there, because the weather was really nice and warm, i spend the most of the day in there.

Watchmen and the Pourhouse

This Friday i got home pretty late, and i hadn't had time for dinner, so i went to my new favorite bar. The Village Pourhouse in West Village. They serve food to about 2am, and they have beer and a great atmosphere, and lots of TV's showing college basketball, I have really come to like basketball on tv since i got here, i think the College league is even more interesting than the nba league. So that's a great place, it has everything.
I only came to get a few beers and a burger, but i started talkling with this guy sitting next to me, and he was really interesting, he is an Editor and he edited South Park the Movie. He had tried a lot of cool stuff and we had much to talk about with me being schooled in Editing at the Danish Filmschool, and he had worked with a lot of big guys in the business. But i couldn't stay too long because i was going to the movies with a friend from work. We were going to watch the watchmen movie, i looked forward to seeing this movie given that it had been sold out the whole first week it came out. Probably because of all the "Blue Penis" i have heard.

"1 - Watchmen (Watchmen is now officially the best-performing movie about a blue penis since that movie where Paul Walker got trapped in the snow with some dogs) $55,655,000"

Woot, this week went by pretty fast...

... So here is the summary.

I started working with the design for Susi's Myspacepage on Monday, that was a real pain in the A**, because you can't really just write the HTML codes and test it, you have to write it all kinds of different places, and it took some time to understand. But with that said im pretty happy about the outcome, which can be seen here:
Lost In The Crowd on Myspace

We also worked on "spamming" the internet everytime Susi writes a post on her blog. So far her facebook profile and her twitter gets updated everytime she posts something, and you can subscribe to her blog too if you like. We also worked on updating her Myspace blog, but it seemed the Myspace funtionality had changed since the last plugin was released, and a lot of other people had the same problem. We couldn't find a solution, but i know it's gonna pop up sooner or later.

At the Maysles we finished up our Mockups for the website, here is the results:

We were looking into having a meeting about them that day, but unfortunatly Jessica, Philip and Jason were too busy, so we sent them an email with them. We told them that this was not finished websiteoutcasts, because we really liked to involve them more in our process, and instead of thinking these website-outcasts was finished, they were merely inputs to our discussion about how the website should look.
We hope to get feedback soon.
Thursday we worked on the backend of the Maysles website, we are trying to think of ways it would be easier for them to update the website, and keep it more current. Without doing that much more work, which actually can be done i think.
We are working on ways to make the calender show the screening of the evning on the home-page, and get the website to automatically remove screening that has allready taken place, and put them in an archive, so the next screening is always the first one you see.
We still had time for some copying and printing some more flyers, so they are ready for a handout on wednesday.
